Frequently Asked Questions

  • • Your home solar panel system must have a rated capacity less than 50 kW (or another eligible renewable energy system).
  • • You must have an Interconnection Agreement in place with your utility.
  • • Your utility must install a meter that separately measures the inflow and outflow of electricity to and from your home.
No, there are no caps on the amount of excess energy you can sell back. You receive credit for all the excess energy your system delivers to the grid.
When your solar panels produce more energy than you use, the excess energy is delivered to the grid, and you receive a credit for it on your bill.
The buyback rate is lower than the energy charge for usage from the grid, as specified in your Electricity Facts Label (EFL).
The credits do not include the monthly base charge, delivery charges from the utility, applicable taxes, fees, or other charges. These are billed separately on your invoice.
Credits for excess energy may take up to 3 billing cycles to appear on your bill.
If your credits exceed your monthly charges, the remaining credits carry forward to the next month. You may receive a refund if you leave with a credit balance.
Yes, you can track your excess energy production and credits on your monthly bill, which shows the excess energy delivered to the grid and your credit amount.
The credit amount calculation is shown in the formula below:

Credit amount = (Buyback rate in $/kWh) x (Excess energy delivered to the grid in kWh)

This applies in situations where the buyback rate is contained in your Electricity Facts Label (EFL) and is lower than the energy charge for usage from the grid.
