How to Read Your Meter
Easy to Use Guide on Reading your Meter

  1. Read the dials ‘backward’ from right to left.
  2. Write down the number that the pointer has just passed for each dial. Read the first dial clockwise, the second dial counterclockwise and alternate according to the arrow guides.
  3. Write down the numbers for each dial reading from right to left to get the total kilowatt-hours registered on the meter. In the example below, the number is 19375.
  4. Similar to your car’s odometer, if over the years the last dial of the meter completes a full revolution (100,000 kilowatt-hours on a five-dial meter), add a “1” in front of the next reading to determine the total number of kilowatt-hours used (this would now be a 6-digit number).
